2017 Upeart Festival, Finland.
At work on the streets of Vaasa in Finland for the latest edition of the Upeart Festival we are pleased to find Ricky Lee Gordon. For the festival, developed in 14 different cities with something like 20 different artists at work, the interpreter presents "Rest in stillness like sky mountain lake”. In recent years, Buddhist meditation has become an integral part of the author's life, consequently influencing his artistic practice. Through direct experience in meditation Ricky Lee Gordon has had several insights into the workings of the mind and consciousness. From this awareness the artist has found peace and ease in the nature of reality, as well as from the teachings of the Buddha he has learned how suffering is part of life and understanding it through meditation will lead to a secession of the same. During his travels, the author was able to practice meditation in various monasteries, as well as confront some of the great masters of Buddhist meditation.
The work proposed for the Finnish review is inspired by the Tibetan principles and practice of calm heart meditation and in particular by the teachings received by Burgs during one of his recent retreats.
