Taking stock of the physical changes that have shaped Thembalidanisi Primary school over a month we painted a total of 17 classrooms, 8 bathrooms and a kitchen. All the poles that run between the courtyard and corridors wear a new bright yellow coat. We replaced and painted 6 doors, 22 door latches and 10 chart boards inside the classrooms. We replaced 40 of the broken windows and 256m2 of the failing ceiling has been fixed. Toilets have new taps, tanks and tiles and the unblocking of drains has allowed the school its running water. Working with the students has been so important to us, to not just paint the walls of a school, but to build relationships and invest our time in listening to their mind’s ideas and in whatever small way we can, try to contribute to their sense of wonder and excitement that should be the cornerstones of all discovery and education
